Yoga Teacher Training Grad: Where are they now: Meet Melanie

Why did you initially sign up for a Yoga Teacher Training:

I have been in love with yoga since I was a teenager and I desired to teach it to others as a small and personal way to make the world a better place.

What was the biggest hurdle for you in deciding to sign up for a training?

I wanted to become a yoga teacher for a decade and almost signed up multiple times, but didn't follow through because I had not figured out how to do arm balances yet. I finally let that go and realized I had lots to offer my students regardless of whether or not I can teach side-crow.

What was biggest surprise from your yoga teacher training?

How much emotional healing and growth emerged throughout the process. My classmates probably thought I was completely unhinged based on how often I was in tears :)

What was your favorite part of yoga teacher training?

Opening a new path inside my heart that I didn't know existed. And of course the joy of connecting with my teachers and classmates.

How has your practice changed?

I have become better at listening to my body in both challenging and gentle poses. I have become more tuned in to my breath.

Where can people find you?

I am pretty offline regarding my yoga. I tried for a bit, but it's just not my style at this point in time. But physically I can be found teaching yoga at Sunset Athletic Club, the Portland Rock Gym (Beaverton location), to the young children at Cedar Hills United Church of Christ, and in the small studio I opened in my home.
